Arthritis

Arthritis is one of the most common diseases in the United States and is also the leading cause of disability. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of every three Americans is affected by arthritis.  In fact, most people over the age of 50 show some signs of arthritis because joints naturally degenerate over time. Fortunately, arthritis can often be effectively treated and managed by the use of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine.

Arthritis is complex disorder that can affect people of any age. Two of the most common forms of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Even though these two different forms of arthritis have different causes and effect the body in different ways, both often share the common symptom of persistent joint pain.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis in the United States. Osteoarthritis begins with the breakdown of joint cartilage, resulting in pain and stiffness.  It most commonly affects the joints of the fingers, knees, hips and spine while other less commonly affected areas include the wrists, elbows, shoulders, and ankles.

Rheumatoid arthritis can affect many different joints in the body as well as the blood, the lungs and the heart. Inflammation of the joint lining may cause pain, stiffness, swelling, warmth, and redness. The affected joint may also lose its shape, resulting in loss of normal movement.

Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine can be effective at treating the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. If you or a loved one are suffering from arthritis, we would like to help.  Contact us to find out how acupuncture can help get you on the path to better health today!*
